Once upon a time - the Navy decided to Close the MCAS Tustin California and Irvine California Military Bases - Essentially both Toxic Rocks - Selling Some Land at Auction to Developers and Gifting Some Land to "Citizens" - the
Exact Details of the Transactions are Scarce - Originally Tustin was to be Conveyed All of that Land Free of Any Charge.
Just Like with Irvine California's Closed MCAS El Toro - the City of Tustin Officials and Staff began Salivating Over this Potential Free Pot of Development - Land Sales - Property and Sales Tax - and Developer Fee - "Gold".
Nevermind that Two of the World's Largest Wooden Structures - "the Hangars" in Tustin California sat on this land with a Documented Toxic Footprint - "Bring On the Home Sales Brochures" - but Never Show or Mention these Blighted - Ugly and Toxic Hangars or Mention Jet Fuel and Industrial Solvent Spills - Tainting this Land Forever.
Almost Immediately both Tustin and Irvine California began Selling Off - Entitling or Otherwise "Pimping" their "Free Toxic Land" - or Land within their Jurisdiction "Collecting Potentially Billions from Multiple Transactions" - and Then Pimping it All Out Again with Continuing Developer Fees - Property Taxes - Sales Taxes from Shopping Venues - and Bizarre City Land Ownership Retention Deals - Forever.
Some Home Builders Reportedly Made Home Buyers Sign a Waiver Agreeing to Never Grow or Eat Anything Produced on Their Property at these Locations - but the Lure of a Brand New Community and Getting in on the Ground Floor - with the Potential for Appreciation and Profit - and the City's Constant Reassurance that Everything Would Be OK - was Just Too Much to Resist.
Determining which Players were Greediest the Cities - the Developers - or the Home Buyers -Remains Difficult.
Some Nostalgia Buffs Even Declared that the Hangars were a Beautiful Part of and Reminder of Our WW II History - and Should be Preserved - Forever.
This Went On for Over a Decade and a Half or So - the Elephant in the Living Room - that Most People Did Not Want to Talk About - Ignoring Even a Grand Jury Report - which Cited a Potential Grave Danger Lurking and Looming there and Inside of these Hangars.
Until November 7th 2023 when The north hangar, near Valencia Avenue and Armstrong Road, caught fire just before 1 a.m. and Flames chewed through the historic building throughout the day, collapsing section after section.
The Burning Hangar Spewed Toxic Fumes - Chemicals and Asbestos - Over a Wide Area Surrounding the Fire - for Over a Week - and what's Left - Really is a "Toxic Wasteland" - with Toxic Materials and Asbestos Spread All Over the Area - Inside and Outside of Homes - Parks - Schools - and Just About Everything.

Mayor Austin Lumbard Talks like the City is in the Poorhouse - but - A $61.2 Million Dollar City of Tustin Capital Improvement Budget - $26 Million Dollars in Reserve Money - Huge Salaries Pensions and Benefits - and the City of Tustin has to "Wait" for a $1 Million Dollar Handout from the Navy to Begin Assisting Hangar Fire Victims - and Right Away - Already - the Mayor is Talking about Building Schools - Homes and more Apartments on Top of this "Fukushima".
The City Tries to Distance Itself from Hangar Ownership - but - they've been Begging People to Buy There - Move There - Rent There - Shop There - Eat There - and Sponsoring "City of Tustin Events" There - Right Next to the Toxic and "May as Well Be Radioactive" Hangars - for Over a Decade.
No Smoke Detectors - No Fire Sprinklers - No 24 Hour Security Patrol to Detect Fires Early - No Technology - No Security Cameras - Not Even a Webcam - there's More Security at a 7-Eleven - No Nothin' - No One Will Buy Your House Now Either - "Remember there's Another Hangar Too" - this Will Be a Litigation Apocalypse.
"Make No Mistake - but Especially Never Foolishly Try and Convince Yourself Otherwise - Today's City Hall - Municipality - Congress - and So Called Authority - is Essentially a "Country Club" - for Organized Criminals."
If You Get the Impression that the Navy seems a Little Cold Towards City of Tustin Officials "The Country Club"- It Might be that they Feel that Tustin Profited by Exploiting that Gifted Land - and that the City wants to have it Both Ways - All the Benefits - and Zero Responsibility.
Although the City is Begging for State and Federal Emergency Assistance - this Disaster Unlike the 10 Freeway Fire and the HB Oil Spill - is "Limited" to a "Wealthy Conservative Enclave" - with Plenty of Resouces to "Bail Themsleves Out".
Residents have questioned why no evacuation order was Issued when the fire broke out November 7th at 1:00 AM - and "Still Hasn't been Issued" - the Lawyers are Rightfully - Circling.
Currently the Mismanagement of the Gifted Former MCAS Tustin Base Property - Corruption - and the Resulting Hangar Fire has Cost Taxpayers $90 Million Dollars and is Projected to Possibly Exceed $1 Billion.
Promoting Alcohol and Cannabis Consumption - Gouging Families for "Water" and - Selling Toxic Land - Absolutey "Shameful"!
